The Kentucky Affiliate of ACNM is pleased to offer two $1,000 scholarships for the 2024 academic year. We aim to support deserving Ky nurse-midwifery students in pursuit of their educational goals and to grow midwifery in Kentucky. Applications will be accepted until April 15th. Next General Meeting open to members is Wednesday, April 24th 2024 at the 36th Annual KANPNM Coalition Conference 2024 in Lexington. National Midwifery Week in Lexington, Kentucky

National Midwifery Week was created by ACNM to celebrate and recognize midwives and midwife-led care. It's time to display your pride in the hallmarks of midwifery that you deliver every day; this week is for you and about you.

This year's theme is
"Midwives - Strengthening Communities."

A podcast for national conversations about maternity and women’s health care, Midwifing America highlights stories from providers and the women they serve to illustrate the state of maternity care. There is mounting evidence that we have a maternal health crisis in our country as we spend more, and have poorer outcomes, than other developed countries. Join us as we Reimagine Women's Healthcare. 

This graph illustrates the changes in midwife-attended births over time. Births attended by Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) and other vaginal births with midwives are all experiencing upward trends. However, as midwives typically attend low-risk births, one cannot deduce from this graph that the number of low-risk births in the U.S. is also increasing.

An increasing number of women are turning to nurse-midwives for their care, but many myths still exist around the nature of the relationship. 

Dr. Brende Lott, CNM and Dr. Alisha Morgan, CNM present Zulresso infusions, a new service available at Taylor Regional Hospital for the treatment of Postpartum Depression. Taylor Regional is one of two certified infusion sites in Kentucky for this FDA approved medication. Brende and Alisha are passionate about treating postpartum depression, a condition that affects 1 in 8 birthing people. They are happy to accept infusion referrals from your provider for this treatment. You may also contact them directly to schedule an appointment to discuss whether ZULRESSO is appropriate for you. 

A grand time was had by all at the 2023 KANPNM Conference in Lexington, Ky. Our affiliate had great representation among the outstanding speakers and attendees. Affiliate members Dee Polito, Deb Karsnitz, Damara Jenkins, Angie Chisholm, & Kendra Faucett each had successful podium presentations and the Affiliate sponsored lunch! 

KANPNM's bill to end the need for a CAPA-CS for Nurse Practitioners in Kentucky passed out of Senate Chambers and passed the Kentucky House by a resounding vote of 92-1. This epic milestone for APRNs in the state came after extensive negotiations and collaboration with the Kentucky Medical Association. Ky Affiliate President Kendra Faucett and Vice President Dee Polito participated in advocacy for the bill.
