Team KY attends IMI-MLC Convening in Detroit

Updated: Feb 28

On June 21, 2024 Birth Detroit hosted all 5 five Midwifery Learning Collaborative teams for a celebration of all we have accomplished over the past 3 years. Each team had an opportunity to share their accomplishments, challenges and visions for advancing midwifery moving forward. Several Kentucky MLC members traveled to the meeting including: Catherann Terry, Alexa Hughes, Angie Chisholm, Aundria Radmacher, Mary Kathryn Delodder, Dee Polito, Vicki Berslem, and Cynethia Bethel.

At the event, we had an opportunity to tour the Birth Detroit Birth Center that was still under construction. It was inspiring to hear how community organizers in Detroit came together to shift the narrative and imagine a future where Detroit is a leader in maternal-infant health care.

Kentucky MLC member, Dee Polito shared, “ I found it particularly interesting that each of the 5 states represented had very different stories and challenges, yet the goals of each state team were reflective of each other - we all were united in the common goal of delivering midwifery care to the communities we uniquely serve.”  See the attached video from IMI with highlights from the event.
